All Fifth Grade Band students will prepare to play the Spring Concert songs. All students must have a parent/guardian permission slip returned in order to stay after school. 
 
The Spring Concert will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 7:00 pm in the JMHS Auditorium. The Fifth/Sixth Grade Band will perform several selections and the Fifth/Sixth Grade Chorus will perform a 20 minute musical revue called "Kids on Broadway/Dance Evolution." The concert will last about one hour. All are invited to attend and it is a free event.

The Sixth Grade Band , Fifth/Sixth Grade Chorus and Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First and Second Grades will perform at 9:30 am. The Sixth Grade Band, Fifth/Sixth Grade Chorus and Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grades will perform at 1:15 pm.
The Fifth Grade Band will not perform in the Christmas Program. The first concert for the Fifth Grade Band will be in May 2018.

Saxophone and clarinet students are learning how to put the reed and ligature on the mouthpiece.
Students are learning how to hold their instrument correctly.
Students are working on pg. 4 in the "Essential Elements for Band" Book, #1-6.
Teacher recommendation: Tap the quarter note beat with your foot as you play #1-6.

All students are practicing playing long sounds on the mouthpiece and tonguing quarter notes in one breath on the mouthpiece. Students are learning the first two or three notes on pg. 4 of the "Essential Elements For Band Book. (#1-6) 
Proper posture (sitting up tall) and holding the instrument correctly are important.
